Richard Edward Peightal, 90

Richard Edward Peightal passed away on July 2, 2019, surrounded by loved ones at Hospice of North Idaho. He was 90 years old.

Richard, also known as Dick, was born July 1, 1929, in Cole Harbor, N.D. As an adventurous young man, he joined the Merchant Marines at age 15, and soon after, at age 17, he joined the Navy.

He married Lavina Walsted in Conrad, Mont., in 1949. Together they had three boys: Philip, Rodney and Michael. They divorced in 1981.

Dick married Joan Peightal in 1982. The family increased with the addition of Joan’s four children: Jeff, Kristi, Greg and Leander.

Dick retired after 32 years of service from Kaiser Aluminum Trentwood Works. He was the past president of USWA Local 338.

Dick was preceded in death by his parents, Dick and Jesse; brother, Pete; sister, Donna and son, Philip. He was survived by his wife, Joan; sister, Janet (Jim); sons, Rodney (Cheri), Mike, Jeff (Cindy), Greg (Gilaine) and Leander (Paula) and daughter, Kristi (Matt). He has 17 grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren and 1 great-great-grandchild.

He was a staunch Democrat and wouldn’t hesitate to give his opinion. He enjoyed his 36 years of retirement, raising cattle and working on the farm.
