OPINION: Trump trade aid package benefits Americans

Please stop buying leftist AP articles for the CDA Press business page.

I don’t understand what is happening with the CDA Press’ business page but a recent article (July 2, 2019) confirmed that whomever is choosing which AP articles to print has an obvious leftist bias.

The article is euphemistically titled “How the Trump administration’s trade aid package works.” Hey, I’d like to know that, I thought. What a complete disappointment. It turns out to be little more than a leftist puff piece – complete with officious sounding quotes from an organization calling itself “The Environmental Working Group”.

Less than thirty seconds of key strokes brought me to their web page, and it’s clear they are a leftist lobbying group. Wikipedia describes them as an “American activist group…”.

The article goes on to question the Trump administration’s decision to leave in place various rules from the previous Administration – calling them “broken rules” and giving the impression the money is thrown out there to farmers (helpfully identified as “millionaires and billionaires”) with no safeguards or rules. I don’t know about you, but this section made me wonder whose former administration these rules came from? Hmm… Who was that guy? Boy in a real news story on the Business page no less, it seems kinda like that type of pesky fact would be in the story.

So the AP writer mentions where the money goes in a quick little ditty in the very last paragraph, and devotes the rest of the article to criticizing Trump and interviewing two highly paid lobbyists with an obvious agenda.

Let me explain to you the importance of this program and how it benefits the American people since the CDA Press would rather not.

When a strong President like Donald Trump engages in a trade war, he is taking actions that sometimes have a negative short term impact on certain industries – farmers in this example. These entrepreneurs and business owners have done their level best in America’s fantastic capitalist driven economy to account for variables, but a trade war can create unforeseen swings in their income far larger than any good businessman can plan for. In the interest of fairness, the US Government compensates these folks because essentially they’ve been drawn onto a battlefield not of their choosing. Seems fair, right?

Contrast that with farmers in communist and socialist countries also on the battlefield. They grow soybeans or potatoes and one day about harvest time these big trucks that say Government Collector show up and take all their crops. They, too are reluctant combatants with one big difference. Every day of every single year they are pawns, told what price they will get and they are not allowed to sell to anyone but the Government Collector. So in those countries (where apparently Pelosi, Schumer, and AOC have not visited), farmers’ lives suck, their crop output is poor, the food tastes like crap, and their output is used on the world market like a weapon.

So, it’s not a surprise that a leftist AP reporter would not understand that A), America’s farming system is the world’s best, and B), it is a system worth protecting against state-controlled competitors from Socialist and Communist countries. If fine Americans like President Trump did not protect our farmers against these unwilling state-owned collective farms operated by beat down people working for pennies an hour, then pretty soon the USA would have very few farmers. Pretty soon after that, we’d be buying our food from Socialist and Communist countries, putting them in the rather unique position of doing something. Hmmmm…. what might they do some day if we depend upon them for our food supply? Hmm…. it’s on the tip of my tongue but I just can’t quite grasp it. What might an enemy of the United States of America do to us once they control our food supply?

Get it? Good. So do the Chinese and the Russians. Happily, President Trump gets it as well, so that we citizens don’t “get it” right where the sun doesn’t shine.

Now that you have a sense of trade wars in general and how the United States of America can and should react, and how it should fairly compensate the members of our remarkably productive capitalist-driven society, lets talk about why it’s important to protect farmers specifically.

Here in America, farmers have some options because we are a growing and vibrant economy. If we destroy their businesses, they’ll sell their land for a subdivision and retire. Once a farm is gone – it’s gone. You don’t show up a decade later with a bulldozer and ask the 500 homeowners if you can bulldoze the total value of their homes (that would be about $125,000,000 in Kootenai County, btw) and plant soybeans. It’s a one way ratchet when farmland disappears, which is why President Trump is wisely helping conserve that asset to guarantee America’s future.

By contrast, in a communist or socialist economy, their government can, and does show up at people’s doorsteps and let them know they’ll be moving somewhere else. As I write this, China is in the middle of “relocating” more than 250,000,000 people from rural areas to newly constructed worker’s cities. I know the CDA Press Business page seems to feel its readers are bothered by actual facts, but in case some of you like facts (vs leftist opinions) with your business news, Google “China will move 250 million people from farms into cities”.

And here’s the sad part. Those farmers who are being told to move? They can’t choose to sell their land to a developer and retire. Nope. They will be told what the government will pay them and if they disagree they will find themselves in a work camp somewhere. I’m sure Pelosi, Schumer and AOC would love to start telling our children someday where they can live and where they cannot.

I hope you enjoyed your primer on the Trump administration’s farm policy. I thought you should know that we are in fact warring against a country and that Mr. Karnowski who wrote the AP article should perhaps learn a thing or two about the rules so his kids don’t have to buy Corn Flakes from a communist country at prices they gleefully set. Maybe one of you could forward this to him. Maybe then he’ll stop acting as a paid shill for the Chinese. God Bless America.
