SCOUTS: Boys should be boys

| January 30, 2019 12:00 AM

Boy Scouts of America, you have lost my support!

Boy Scouts of America, an organization more than 100 years old, was created for boys.

The age of a Boy Scout is 11-18, an age when boys need to be boys. This is also a time when girls need to be girls.

I was a volunteer for the Boy Scouts for 10 years. I was scoutmaster for five years. My son and one of my grandsons are both Eagle Scouts!

It seems that we can no longer have all-male organizations without females wanting to join! If these girls find the activities of the Boy Scouts more attractive and fun due to what they do, then why not get the Girl Scouts to engage in the same activities as the Boy Scouts?

In the article in the Coeur d’Alene Press, it was stated the girls will be in girl-only troops. In reality, how long will separate troops last?

My last year as scoutmaster I had five young men make Eagle. One of those five went on to attend the U.S. Army Military School at West Point.

I really enjoyed my time in Scouting. I do not see this organization surviving all the recent changes made by the national office. This was once a great organization that taught the boys strong moral standards to live by.
