Don Benito, the Spanish pirate, had acquired a mongrel that had been taught to bark once for “Si” and twice for “No.”

Benito was captured by the British and the dog became the property of the conquering captain, who taught the dog the same trick in English.

The dog thus became the world’s first “Si”-ing “Aye” dog.
