HOSPITALITY: At what cost?

| January 25, 2019 12:00 AM

After reading your article “A hand up for service, hospitality community” in the Monday, Jan. 21 Press, it kind of made my blood boil.

Don’t misunderstand me. CDAIDE is a great answer and help to those hardworking hospitality workers. As a senior citizen, native born Coeur d’Alene and Post Falls resident, I well remember when there was plenty of well-paying jobs for the hardworking families of Coeur d’Alene and the North Idaho communities year-round, with eight or 10 large lumber mills in the area plus the logging industry.

I remember hearing that a prominent citizen of Coeur d’Alene made the remark that he waited for the day when a lunch pail wouldn’t be seen in Coeur d’Alene. Well, he got his wish at the cost of many families suffering to make ends meet, busy food banks and welfare office, not to mention homelessness and an epidemic of drug use. Yes, we have a beautiful city that invites tourists (in season), but they don’t feed our families.
