Banff Mountain Film Festival World Tour 2019 coming to Cd’A

The Banff Mountain Film Festival World Tour 2019 comes to Coeur d’Alene this month, offering a chance to view some of the world’s best mountain film footage.

Films will be screened over three nights — Friday, Jan. 25; Saturday, Jan. 26; and Sunday, Jan. 27 — at the Schuler Performing Arts Center at North Idaho College in downtown Coeur d’Alene.

Door open Friday and Saturday at 6 with films beginning at 7. For Sunday’s show, doors open at 5 with films beginning at 6.

Tickets are $18 in advance and $20 at the door. Advance tickets are available at Tri State Outfitters, Camera Corral and Vertical Earth in Coeur d’Alene, and Two Wheeler Dealer in Hayden. To buy tickets online, visit www.mountainfever.us.

As in years past, a portion of the proceeds will support the Salvation Army Kroc Center’s Third Grade Swim Program which is dedicated to ensuring all children in Kootenai County are taught how to swim.

The World Tour’s 26 films will provide a full lineup of diverse mountain culture, travel, sport and human interest.

This year’s films include:

This Mountain Life: Coast Range Traverse

One of the more popular films on the tour, it features a mother – daughter team on a six-month ski traverse in the Coast Mountains of British Columbia. Sharing a common goal they learn much about each other on their journey, ski traversing, bush whacking and foraging rivers to keep their journey on track.

For the Love of Mary

This film follows the story of 97-year-old George Etzweiler who first started running as a way of saving his own life. Overweight, out of shape and going downhill fast he vowed to turn things around and to be there for his beloved Mary who he married in 1942.

Almost 50 years after he started running, he still runs and competes, now to honor his wife Mary who passed away in 2010.

Fast Horse

This Canadian film follows the return of the Blackfoot bareback horse racing tradition in a new form: the Indian Relay. It is a story of struggle about how Allison Red Crow works to build a team with a new jockey and second hand horses so they can take on the best riders at the Calgary Stampede.

Rogue Elements: Corbet’s Couloir

Adrenaline-fueled sports abound at Banff Mountain Film Festival 2019. Here, skis are traded for mountain bikes to leap into the icy infamous Corbet’s Couloir in Jackson Hole

Skier vs Drone

This film illustrates the classic battle of man versus machine. Olympic Bronze Medalist ski racer Victor Muffat-Jeandet is up for the exciting challenge.

The Banff Mountain Film Festival is an inspiring international film which began in 1976, and is held annually on the first weekend in November in Banff, Alberta.

In 1986, The Banff Mountain Film Festival began an outreach program to bring the festival to other communities.

The World Tour, which now visits hundreds of cities worldwide, provides a first-class film experience, in a local venue, for those who cannot make the annual trek to the Canadian Rockies. This year marks the 21st year the Banff Mountain Film Festival World Tour has come to the Coeur d’Alene area.
