TRUMP: Apply the sniff test

| January 20, 2019 12:00 AM

Myth has it that Hercules, upon first seeing America’s Republican Stables, took just one look, one sniff, threw up his arms and walked away.

For the past two years, Donald Trump has been conducting a tour of this facility. Those following him most closely, step for step, clap and cheer and wave their Make America Great Again headwear. And they continue on, persisting. As we arrive at and pass through one stinking section of the stable after another, nothing seems to faze them:

The bragging, on tape, of sexual assaults on women. A dubious and thoroughly tainted election. Attacks on journalists and news media. Praise for tyrants and dictators. Trashing of foreign alliances. Demonstrated ignorance of and contempt for our Constitution. Barbaric treatment of immigrant children and their families.

And to those of us lagging behind, sickened by the whole experience, protesting and criticizing, one of these lemmings in human form will turn, now and then, and thumb his nose (or her nose) at us and label us whiners. “Trump won the election. Get over it. Blah, blah, etc.”

Stephanie Gossard has labeled Allen Mazur a “whining liberal” (The Press, Jan. 16). Apparently Mr. Mazur criticizes Trump more than he should: 10 times in about a year!

I urge Mr. Mazur to try for 20 this year and suggest to Ms. Gossard that she open her eyes, watch where she’s stepping and take a look at her shoes. I hope she didn’t pay too much for them.
