Timberlake’s Peightal signs

to run at Lewis-Clark State

LEWISTON — Senior Abigail Peightal from Timberlake High has signed to run for Lewis-Clark State College, Warriors coach Mike Collins announced.

“Abi has a great resume in running,” Collins said. “She finished in the top 10 at the state championships all four years of high school, with a personal best time of 19:17 for the 5,000 meters. In track, she has qualified for state all three years in the 1,600 and the 3,200, placing fifth in both events last year.”

“It will be exciting to see her as she enters her final season of high school track. She comes from a well-run high school program with a coach (Shawn Lawler) that has a team philosophy similar to our own, so there is no doubt she will meld into what we do here very quickly,” Collins added. “She has been a part of a great history of team success at Timberlake with the Tigers finishing outside of the top four (at state) only once during her span there. We are excited to have her and believe she will have an impact on our own goals of stepping on the podium this next year.”

Former Lake City swimmer Maryon

named swimming and diving coach

at College of Idaho

CALDWELL — College of Idaho athletic director Reagan Rossi has named Tyler Maryon, who swam at Lake City High, head coach of the Yotes men’s and women’s swimming and diving program.

The C of I alum will work alongside Greg Colby, who has served as interim head coach since April of 2018. Following the season, Colby is expected to return to assistant coach duties.

“We are excited to have Tyler Maryon return to his alma mater as our new swim coach,” Rossi said. “He will become the ninth C of I alum on our staff as a head coach — which shows how much the college has meant to each of them. His experiences as a student-athlete will help in the recruiting process and I believe he will continue to grow our programs.”

The 2016 C of I graduate returns to the college after a successful season as head coach of Mountain View High in Meridian — leading his girls’ squad to a third-place finish in the Idaho 5A state championships. Maryon also served as an assistant at Borah High in Boise.

“The College of Idaho and the swim program made me the person that I am today,” Maryon said. “To be able to return to the college and give back to the school is an amazing opportunity. Greg Colby has done an outstanding job building the team for a successful run at nationals, and I am looking forward to guiding this team to their best finish in program history.”

Maryon was a four-year letter-winner for the Yotes, qualifying for the NAIA Championships in each of his four seasons. As a junior, he won the consolation final at the NAIA meet in the 200-yard butterfly and was the school record-holder in both butterfly events, along with swimming a leg on five record relay teams. He currently holds the No. 2 all-time time in the 200-yard butterfly and the No. 5 mark in the 100-yard butterfly.

A native of Coeur d’Alene, Maryon earned his degree from the C of I in education and is currently a fifth-grade teacher at Washington Elementary in the Caldwell School District.
