POST FALLS — Post Falls and Pasco wrestled to a 36-all tie in the championship dual at the 22nd annual River City Duals on Saturday at The Arena.

But Pasco won the dual on criteria (the Bulldogs won eight matches to the Trojans 7), ending the Trojans’ bid for a five-peat in their own event.

“This was one of the most exciting duals, and could be the top two or three I’ve been a part of,” Post Falls coach Pete Reardon said. “It was an awesome, back and forth match. They won five in a row after we got a pin. We knew we were going to give up some weights, but knew that we’d be able to fight back some.”

Reardon praised senior Tristan Shaw, who stepped in to the varsity lineup this weekend for his performance against Pasco.

“He was our third-string guy at 132, and now is going to be one of our top guys,” Reardon said. “He doesn’t have a ton of wrestling experience and was losing the entire match and was taken down three or four times, but came back to tie it at the end. Tristan needed a takedown and when his opponent took his shot, Tristan threw him on his back and held him off. It was just unbelievable to see him come back and win. It was a great win for him and great match. It was really cool to see a kid in the moment get that win.”

Pasco won the River City duals for the fourth time. The Bulldogs last won at River City in 2006 after winning the first two events in 1998 and 1999.

Roddy Romero (98 pounds), Braxton Mason (106), Isaac Jessen (126), A.J. De La Rosa (138), Ridge Lovett (145) and Tyler Morris (160) finished the weekend a perfect 5-0 for Post Falls.

Sam Edelblute (126), Riley Siegford (132), Colton Boettcher (160) went unbeaten on the weekend for Lakeland, which finished fifth in the Gold Bracket.

“It was a good weekend for our guys,” Lakeland coach Rob Edelblute said. “We’re kind of struggling with health right now, with four JV guys in the varsity lineup, I was impressed with those younger guys stepping in and getting some wins for the guys.”

Collin Kelley (152), Chandler Axtell (126), Carson Heim (170), John White (160) and John Sullivan (285) went unbeaten in the Copper Bracket for Lakeland, which hosts Bonners Ferry on Tuesday.

Isaiah Evans (126), Caleb Miller (152) and Joey Follini (182) went unbeaten on the weekend for Timberlake, which finished fifth in the Silver Bracket.
