Post Falls, Lakeland advance
POST FALLS — Post Falls and Lakeland went unbeaten to advance to the Gold Bracket (championship bracket) of the annual River City Duals at The Arena on Friday.
Post Falls beat Moscow 70-9, then Whitefish 79-0 to advance. Lakeland beat Bishop Kelly 52-24 and Eureka 69-3.
Timberlake split matches, beating Walla Walla 56-22 before losing to Ephrata 42-39 to fall to the silver bracket.
The tournament concludes today.

Hess, Hughes advance
to semis
MISSOULA, Mont. — Caden Hess (106 pounds) and Owen Hughes (285) went unbeaten on the first day of the Jug Beck Rocky Mountain Classic, advancing to today’s semifinal round at Sentinel High.
“With Caden, his normal weight is 98 pounds, so he had a tough class and had to bump up a weight,” Lake City coach Corey Owen said. “But he really stepped up. He got a tough kid from Nampa in the quarters, and really wrestled a good, controlled match. Owen had the No. 1 seed in the quarters and was getting it taken to him, but threw him on his back and got a pin, so it was awesome for him.”
Devin Sorrelle (120), Kaleb Strickler (145), Matthew Whitcomb (170), Zane Monaghan (182) and Mahlon Clark (220) are alive in the consolation bracket for Lake City, which is ninth with 70 points.
Mead High of Spokane leads with 124 points.
Coeur d’Alene High saw seven wrestlers go unbeaten during the first two rounds ... but all of them lost in the quarterfinals.
Still, the Vikings have eight wrestlers competing in consolation matches today: Dylan Moffat (103), Dom Jessos (113), Hunter Schueller (126), Jacob Engels (132), Nolan Randles (138), Gunner Guilio (152), Mitchell Moffat (160) and Nick Dohm (182).
“We had a strong start in the early rounds, then went 0-for-7 in the quarterfinals,” CHS coach Jeff Moffat said. “The kids all wrestled hard, but lost a lot of close matches in the quarterfinals. Hopefully we can bounce back and do well (Saturday).”
The Vikings (65.5 points) are tied for 10th in the team standings with Polson, Mont., through Friday’s action.
