Poe Asphalt receives awards

Poe Asphalt Paving recently received two awards at the Washington Asphalt Pavement Association Annual Convention in Bellevue, Wash.

Each year WAPA, WSDOT, the American Public Works Association and the Washington Association of County Engineers award those paving projects judged to be the most outstanding in the State. These awards speak to the level of quality and excellence that Poe Asphalt puts in to every project.

The 2018 awards include first place for best airport paving in Washington for the reconstruction of taxiway J at Fairchild Air Force Base in 2017, as well as recognition for high quality asphalt pavement construction on contract number 9062 for Junction US 195 to Bishop Boulevard paving on State Route 270 from the Washington State Department of Transportation completed in 2017.

“I’m extremely proud of our crew’s ability to produce these award-winning projects. It’s their attention to detail and working together that makes the difference,” said Poe Asphalt President Mark Poe.

Founded in 1953, the family-owned company has grown into locations in Clarkston, Wash.; Pullman, Wash.; and Post Falls.

Their award-winning work is seen throughout the Inland Northwest. Poe offers chip sealing, residential paving, highway paving and industrial services.

New dual-branded hotel open on Appleway

After extensive renovations, the new dual brand Comfort Inn & Suites/MainStay Suites hotel has opened at 701 W. Appleway in Coeur d’Alene.

The two hotels are designed to meet the needs of the leisure traveler, business traveler or extended stay traveler.

“Our renovation was designed to cater to the three stages of the guest experience,” said Town Pump project manager, Traci Ruschetti, in a news release.

Everything has been replaced, from light switches and covers to carpet, floor tile, furniture, beds, artwork, televisions, and more, said Joyce Hubble, general manager.

“Our 46 MainStay Suites rooms have been a huge hit with the extended stay traveler,” said Kelly May, sales manager. “These rooms can best be described as studio suites. All of the rooms have a full kitchen including dishwasher, great work space with room to spread-out and plenty of storage space.”

The 100 percent, smoke-free hotel also features an indoor pool and spa, marketplace, business center, exercise room, laundry facilities, breakfast room, lobby and meeting space for 50 people.

The Coeur d’Alene location is one of the first in the U.S. to receive new signs with the new logo for the dual-branded hotel.

A ribbon cutting and grand opening is scheduled for Feb. 28 in conjunction with the Coeur d’Alene Chamber of Commerce Business After Hours mixer.

Architect for the project was Coeur d’Alene-based Cory Trapp of Longwell + Trapp. General Contactor was Ginno Construction and Mike Sowl served as the project superintendent.

Approximately 165 local construction workers employed on the renovation project.
