Mitchell, Wilson fuel Timberwolf victory
RATHDRUM — Klaire Mitchell had 13 points and six steals and Dejah Wilson had six steals to set a school record with 79 on the season, and the Lake City Timberwolves beat the Lakeland Hawks 64-17 on Saturday in nonleague play at Hawk Court.
“We jumped on them early and came into the game preparing for the Fish game and didn’t call anything from the sideline,” Lake City coach James Anderson said. “We let Chloe (Teets) call everything from the court and she did a great job of getting us into what we needed to do.”
Lake City (13-2) travels to Lewiston on Tuesday.
Katy Ryan had seven rebounds and six blocked shots for Lakeland (5-9), which plays host to Moscow on Thursday to open 4A Inland Empire League play.
“She played pretty good post defense,” Lakeland coach Steve Seymour said. “And we had 19 first-half turnovers against very good pressure. Once Lake City gets two or three turnovers, the spark turns into a flame.”

KALISPELL, Mont. — The Trojans nearly pulled off the weekend sweep, but post Taylor Henley scored nine of her 23 points in the fourth quarter for the Braves, including two free throws with 1 1/2 minutes left to break a 47-all tie.
“We made just enough mistakes, and couldn’t make the one play to get us over the hump,” Post Falls coach Marc Allert said.
Guard Jenna Johnson added 17 points for Flathead. Johnson and Henley combined to make all 16 of the Braves’ baskets.
Dylan Lovett scored 19 points for Post Falls (3-13), which travels to Coeur d’Alene on Tuesday.
“Dylan Lovett played really well all weekend,” Allert said. “She did a good job scoring for us tonight, and played good defense last night (in a win at Glacier).”

SANDPOINT — Dawson Driggs had 12 points and seven rebounds for the Bulldogs, who cut a 25-point deficit to 11 in the fourth quarter, but fell to the Eagles at Les Rogers Court.
“If we had a little bit more time, then maybe we could’ve made a game of it,” Sandpoint coach Will Love said. “But I’m really proud of the girls for working hard while down 20 or 25 points and making a game out of it. If we can cut into these leads against Moscow or Lakeland, then we’ll be in pretty good shape.”
West Valley entered halftime with a 30-15 lead, yet Sandpoint battled back. Hattie Larson and Driggs attacked the basket, which opened up the outside shot for Maddie Morgan, who hit three 3s in the second half. Larson added nine points and five boards.
Sandpoint (2-10) will host Priest River on Tuesday.

“They made some shots in the first quarter and got out to a little bit of a lead,” Lakeside coach Chris Dohrman said. “We just could never climb back in it and kind of ran out of gas trying to catch up. They played a little better than us tonight.”
