Fatal shooting at Hayden bar

A Hayden man is dead and a Coeur d’Alene man faces a second degree murder charge following an early morning shooting Sunday at a bar in Hayden.

Kootenai County Sheriff’s deputies responded to a reported shooting around 1:40 and found the victim, a 45-year-old whose identity has not yet been releasd, lying in the parking lot at Hayden Creek Plaza, outside the Tipsy Pine Bar.

Deputies “secured the scene, located the alleged suspect in the parking lot and rendered aid to the vicim,” said a Sheriff’s Office news release. The victim was transported to Kootenai Health where he was later pronounced dead. The suspect, Scott M. White, 33, was arrested and booked into Kootenai County Jail.

Witnesses told investigators the victim and White were involved in an altercation earlier in the bar. The men then went outside into the parking lot where White reportedly shot the victim.

Another bar patron retrieved the gun and detained White until the deputies arrived.

The Tipsy Pine is located in the retail center at the intersection of Government Way and Prairie Avenue.

The name of the victim will be released once notifications to family have been made, said the news release.
