Shirley Jean Busch, 86

Shirley Jean Busch passed on Friday, Dec. 20, 2019, at home in Coeur d’Alene. She was born on April 14, 1933, to Howard Schultz and Ruth Carpenter, in Ames, Iowa.

Shirley lived her teen life in Ames. She worked at the hotel as a waitress. She took a trip to Amarillo, Texas, to see her aunt and uncle. In Amarillo she went to the roller-rink, where she met Wayne E. Busch, who was stationed at Amarillo Air Force Base. After a short time dating, they were married on Oct. 20, 1951, until Dec. 20, 2019, for 68 years.

After Wayne was discharged from the Air-Force they moved to Southern California. There, Shirley was a homemaker. She helped raise four children: Christina, Kathleen, David and Michael. She did a lot of sewing and crafts. When Shirley learned that the newborn babies of young Navy families were sent home from the hospital in paper gowns, she began sewing baby gowns for infants. She was given awards for the time spent doing this. Upon moving to Coeur d’Alene she also enjoyed crocheting throws, baby blankets and baby hats for the hospital. She enjoyed helping others.

The family grew; there are now eight grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren, and the family keeps growing. Thank the Lord. Shirley will be missed by family and friends. She is now with the Lord.

A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, Jan. 4, 2020, at Coeur d’Alene Bible Church, 5350 N. Fourth St., Coeur d’Alene, with a reception to follow.

Yates Funeral Homes has been entrusted with the care of final arrangements.
