Photo by JEFF DUROCHER This past weekend the Timbers North FC 02/03 Boys red soccer team traveled to Oregon to play in the Portland Timbers Alliance College Showcase. Assistant Club Director Matt Ruchti and the TNFC team went 4-0, and finished the weekend as the leader in the U18 Division. On Friday, the Timbers defeated WFC Academy 02B, 2-1. Jackson Henkle and Chris Swider each with one goal. Saturday the Timbers shutout Harbor Premier B02 Green 4-0. Drake Prohaska led the Timbers with two goals, Jacob Janzen 1 goal and assist, Nate Durocher one goal and Chris Swider with an assist. Tyler Allred was in goal. The Timbers finished Saturday play with a third win, 8-0 against Edmond Premier Centralia City B02. Tyler Allred had the shutout in goal. Chris Swider and Nate Durocher each scored two goals, Walker Jump and Devin Claflin each scored one goal, and Cooper Proctor and Jacob Janzen each had a goal and an assist. Jordan Douglas had two assists, Matt McLeod one assist. The Timbers beat the Westside Timbers WT 02B Copas 4-0 on Sunday to conclude weekend play. Walker Jump had one goal and one assist. Jacob Janzen, Jackson Henkle, and Devin Claflin each had one goal. Drake Prohaska, Jordan Douglas, and Nate Durocher each had an assist. Cooper Proctor was in goal for the shutout. The Timbers North FC travel to Seattle next month to play in the PacNW Winter Showcase. CROSS COUNTRY

National championships: North Idaho XC (NIXC) burned up the course on the frozen tundra at Yahara Hills Golf Course in Madison, Wis., this past weekend.

NIXC had 26 athletes competing in the USATF Junior Olympic National Championships that took place on Dec. 14. Over 2,500 runners attended this event, ages 7 to 18. Weather conditions challenged even the heartiest, with a high of 25 degrees and a biting wind chill at 14 degrees.

Eight North Idaho XC runners achieved All-American status, placing in the top 25 in their respective age groups — half of these athletes are the younger end of their age group.

NIXC also had teams placing the following:

Timbers North FC ’04 boys: The Timbers competed in their USYS National League over the weekend in Portland.

Saturday morning they played Seattle United 04 boys to a 2-2 draw. Lance Gilmor (assist Kohrt Weber) and Kohrt Weber (Evan Lowder) had one goal each.

Saturday afternoon they lost 3-2 to Portland City United 04 boys. Noah Janzen (assist Kohrt Weber) and Tyler Gasper (assist Noah Janzen) had one goal each.

Sunday morning they lost to LASC 4-2. Joe Sarkis (assist Noah Janzen) and Evan Darling had one goal each for the Timbers.

Thorns Girls ’04 Red: The Thorns started RCL league play on Dec. 10 with a 2-0 victory over the Spokane Sounders G04B squad. Goals were scored by Jazzy Carothers on a cross from Kayla Dearmin, and Kylie Stone. Maddy Quigley had the shutout in goal.

The Thorns then traveled to the Timbers Alliance Winter Showcase Tournament in Vancouver, Wash., on Dec.13-15. The team began play against the AUFC Thorns 04 group, and won 1-0. Shelbie Shriner sent a corner to Kayla Dearmin for the score. Mackenzie Goings had the shutout as keeper. Saturday saw two games, the first a 0-0 tie with Boise’s BTT 04 Red team (Mackenzie Goings with the shutout), and a 1-0 loss against Mt. Ranier FC G04Red. In the last match on Sunday morning, the girls lost to Capital Timbers FC 2004G Red by a score of 3-0.
