COEUR d’ALENE — Luke McLaughlin scored 13 points and the Coeur d’Alene Vikings notched their first victory of the season, downing the visiting Rogers Pirates 61-37 in nonleague play on Friday night at Viking Court.

Brayden Bengtson hit three 3-pointers and added 11 points for Coeur d’Alene (1-2).

“We’ve gotten a little bit better; we had a late start (due to the Viking football team reaching the state title game), but every day I see us improving. After the first couple games it could have been frustrating, but these kids took it in stride and kept plugging away.”

Evan Nomee scored 11 points to lead Rogers (0-1), which scored just three points in the first quarter — “and that was a 30-footer,” Hanna said. “I like the way we play defense.”

Coeur d’Alene travels to Richland on Tuesday.
