TRUMP: Worthy of pity

| December 6, 2019 12:00 AM

Donald Trump has an enigmatic personality so you can love him, hate him, or in my case, pity him. Why do I pity the president? His silver spoon childhood seems to have failed to instill in him the basic forms of decency.

We all have flaws (sins) so we should have some degree of empathy for him, but truth is a vital factor and his lack thereof makes it hard to respect him. He tries to be a good president, but his erratic actions keep him from being one. He seems to be very insecure and lashes out at anyone who questions his policies. It is not in his nature to replace people without publicly demeaning their character.

When the media questions his policies, he calls their action “fake news.” Those who disagree with him are called losers or some other derogatory caricature.

Foreign policy should not be conducted through a clandestine sideline channel. The president and his lawyer established a dangerous precedent that may limit the effectiveness of all present and future ambassadors.

Do the president’s actions deserve impeachment? My opinion is irrelevant; it is up to Congress to carefully review all transcripts and decide whether the president was acting for the good of the nation or for political gain.

“Government is a trust and the officers of the government are trustees; and both the trust and the trustees are created for the interest of the people.” — Henry Clay.
