COEUR d’ALENE — With other teams attempting to slow down 6-foot-4 junior post Brooklyn Rewers, Lake City has found that strategy has allowed its shooters to do just that — shoot.

On Tuesday, senior Aubrey Avery shot, and did so really well.

Avery hit four 3-pointers, all in the second quarter, and finished with 30 points as the Timberwolves beat the Sandpoint Bulldogs 67-40 in a nonleague game at Lake City High.

“Teams are putting so much emphasis on Brooklyn and slowing her down,” Lake City coach James Anderson said. “It’s allowing our guards to shoot and find some open space. Aubrey took advantage of that tonight, taking her chances and found a rhythm tonight.”

Rewers scored 13 points and Jaya Miller added 10 points for Lake City (2-1), which visits West Valley in the Border Clash on Friday.

“I thought our energy and pressure was good tonight,” said Anderson, whose team jumped out to an 18-0 lead in the first quarter. “We did a good job of putting pressure on them early. They strugged to make shots early and we were able to take advantage of that.”

Dawson Driggs scored 12 points for Sandpoint (1-2).

“Talia, she’s really good and Dylan did a great job on her defensively in the first half,” Post Falls coach Marc Allert said. “She got to the basket a little more and got to the line, and we had a hard time containing her in the second half. Both Stanford and Oregon State were there looking at her tonight, but I thought Dylan did a good job on her.
