- The Circulation Service Department at The Press will close at 9 a.m. Monday in observance of Labor Day. If you will be out of town, contact customer service at 208-664-0220 to have your paper held or consider donating your paper to the Newspapers in Education program.
- Residents interested in saving the old Government Way home on the Kootenai County courthouse campus will hold a rally in front of the house from noon to 3 p.m. today. They will also have petitions to sign. The county has twice sought bids to move the home but has received none and now seeks bids to tear the house down now. County commissioners will hold a meeting at 4 p.m. on Wednesday in the Administration Building to discuss the future of the home.
- In observance of Labor Day, area city halls will be closed Monday. Police, fire and rescue services for life-threatening or in-progress emergencies may be reached by calling 911. Police departments in Post Falls and Coeur d’Alene will be open for walk-in emergencies. There will be no trash pickup on Monday.
- Sean Gaskell brings the kora, an ancient 21-string harp from West Africa, to the Hayden Library, (Sept. 4), Athol Library (Sept. 5), and Pinehurst Library (Sept. 6) The free performances begin at 6 p.m. and features songs from Gambia, Senegal, Mali, Guinea and Guinea Bissau. Some kora songs originated 800 years ago.
