DEBT: Relief is not free

| August 30, 2019 1:00 AM

As you well know from time to time, I express my thoughts via letter to the editor with emphasis on freedom as provided to us in the Bible and the U.S. Constitution.

I seldom express anger, however, periodically an issue comes to the fore that should anger all of us, especially when irresponsibility is encouraged. A couple of examples are: When an organization offers citizens who have not paid their taxes relief or forgiveness. It gets under my skin when both the forgiven and the so-called forgiver tout the benefits of irresponsibility.

A second example is when students and/or families expect relief for education loan debt. It makes me even more angry when politicians promise forgiveness.

Are we so ignorant as to believe that debts will just disappear? Someone has to pay these loans and taxes. That somebody is you and me. We have paid our taxes and loans, yet they expect us to pay theirs.

Freedom and responsibility go hand in hand.
