- Local law enforcement and fire agencies invite the public today to welcome Army Sgt. 1st Class Brian Sharp, who was shot multiple times in Afghanistan earlier this year. Around 11 a.m., there will be an escort at the state line on eastbound Interstate 90 to U.S. 95 in Coeur d'Alene to Lancaster Road. The public is invited to show its support along the escort route. Sharp is from Montana, but he and his wife, Amy, have ties in Coeur d'Alene and Hayden.
- Armored vehicles and SWAT teams converged on a home on the Rathdrum Prairie early Thursday to serve a search warrant, but the suspect was not home, according to the Kootenai County Sheriff's Office. The warrant was executed around 6 a.m. at an undisclosed location. Armored vehicles, including the KCSO's Bearcat and Post Falls Police's Rescue 1, arrived. The name of the suspect, who will likely be charged at the federal level, was not released on Thursday. The multi-agency North Idaho Violent Crimes Task Force is leading the investigation.
- A grassroots citizen group has started an online petition at https://bit.ly/2NGfLwu in opposition to the Idaho Department of Correction’s plans for a community re-entry center at a site to be determined in North Idaho.
