Hillsboro piles up hits, walks, runs to top Spokane
SPOKANE — The host Indians allowed nine hits and 11 walks to visiting Hillsboro, and the Hops took advantage with a 7-2 win on Monday night before 3,981 fans at Avista Stadium.
Hillsboro (44-26, 20-12 second half) took the lead for good in the third inning, with runs scoring on a wild pitch and sacrifice fly. They added two more in the next inning on RBI singles from Ryan January and Ricky Martinez.
Spokane (41-29, 19-13 second half) tallied a run in the fifth on Kellen Straham’s RBI double, but it was a rough night for the Indians at the plate as they struck out 16 times.
Both teams are off today, with Spokane opening a three-game series with visiting Everett at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday. The Indians lead Tri-City by one game and Everett by three in the second-half standings, with six games remaining.
