THANKS: JROTC pitch proves popular

| August 25, 2019 1:00 AM

I’d like to thank Jessica Mahuron and the League of Women Voters for allowing me the time to present a proposal for a junior ROTC program in our high schools. Thanks too to Devin Weeks and the Coeur d’Alene Press for covering it. And especially, a big thanks to the U.S. Army, Navy and Marine Corps. You young men sat so patiently for two hours while you had a million other things to do.

Since The Press article was published, emails have been pouring in by the hundreds. From New York to Alaska and all points in-between. Moms’ clubs, school employees, police, businesses — it’s safe to say the community wants this program. I’ve tested the ability to collect funds from local businesses and all are willing to participate where they can.

The one disappointment I have is not one of our local state representatives has volunteered to participate. They know how to navigate political water better than the general public. So thanks to you all.
