PULITZER: Writer coming to Cd'A

| August 23, 2019 1:00 AM

War novel. Spy novel. Refugee novel.

“The Sympathizer,” Viet Thanh Nguyen’s 2016 novel, established a platform by giving voice to many voiceless lost souls of the Vietnam War. Often our views of war are fabricated and made murky through Hollywood’s lenses. This novel is important and applicable to the times, giving most of us westerners the needed eastern perspective of a pivotal time in history.

Tragic and humorous at times and steadfast in its commitment to pull off the tapestry of lies that have hidden the war, “The Sympathizer” gives us a glimpse into the journey of the solider, the spy, the refugee. I would encourage everyone to be a part of Idaho Humanities Council’s Oct. 25 dinner and lecture at The Coeur d’Alene Resort. The rhetorical fires across our geopolitical landscapes threaten our ability to cultivate honest, meaningful and proactive thoughts to be developed and discussed without reprisal. This lecture will allow for this as well as ensure intellectual and historical posterity for our community’s future.
