Deanna Lee Goodlander, 81

Deanna Lee Goodlander, 81, entered Heaven on Tuesday morning, Aug. 13, 2019. She passed away peacefully, surrounded by her family. Deanna was born, raised and passed away in her beloved Coeur d’Alene, Idaho. She was the eldest of four siblings born to Orrin and Luva Lee. She attended North Idaho Junior College, Brigham Young University and the University of Idaho, and received her Bachelor’s degree in communications from Boise State University. She was married to Jack Goodlander on June 26, 1959, in Coeur d’Alene, and they went on to have three children; Philip, John and Kelli.

Deanna was very proud of her roots in Coeur d’Alene, which gave her a GREAT love for her city. Her father, Orrin Lee, was the president of Coeur d’Alene Junior College, from 1936 to 1939, and the first president of North Idaho Junior College, from 1939 to 1944. He helped instill in her the love and pride of Coeur d’Alene.

Deanna was involved in the Jaycettes and later became the first woman in Idaho awarded a senatorship in the Junior Chamber International (JCI); that was one of her most cherished honors. Deanna also served as president for the Idaho JCI Senate. The first and last line of the Jaycee creed is: “Faith in God gives meaning and purpose to human life… and that service to humanity is the best work of life,” and these words fully embody who she was and how she will be remembered.

Deanna proudly wore the iconic blue jacket with the Coeur d’Alene Commodores for many years. In 1992, she was named Citizen of the Year by the Coeur d’Alene Chamber of Commerce.

Deanna had her hands in a number of successful businesses and real estate in our community. In 1997, after her beloved husband passed away, she was elected to the Coeur d’Alene City Council, where she served with great devotion and passion for 16 years. Deanna was a pillar in this community and we have been able to see her strength, love and dedication by looking at the committees, boards and clubs that she was part of, including Coeur d’Alene’s urban renewal agency, called ignite cda; the Lake City Center, as a president and board member; city council, as a liaison; the Coeur d’Alene Arts Commission, as a citizen member; Rotary Club, where she received the Paul Harris Fellowship Award and Sorella. Deanna was passionate about the Hospital Foundation, the Coeur d’Alene Library, McEuen Park, Coeur d’Alene Police and Fire Departments and countless other things.

Deanna is survived by her children, Philip (Sandi) Goodlander and children, Will, Erin and Hailee, of Logan Utah; John (Rosemary) Goodlander and children, Carly and Maycie, of Coeur d’Alene and Kelli (Rex) Callihan and children, Shelby, Jacklyn and Donald, of Coeur d’Alene. She also leaves behind three siblings: Dixie (Allen) Murphy of Idaho Falls; Richard Lee of Las Vegas and Terry Lee of Coeur d’Alene. She leaves behind seven great-grandchildren, with one more on the way. She also leaves behind numerous nieces and nephews. Deanna is preceded in death by her husband, Jack.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. on Tuesday, Aug. 20, 2019, at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, 477 E. Honeysuckle Ave., Hayden, with public viewing from 12:45-1:50 p.m.

A celebration will follow the service from 4-7 p.m. at the Lake City Center, 1916 N. Lakewood Drive, Coeur d’Alene. The family requests donations to be made to Kootenai Health Foundation.
