Atlas Mill plan heads to Cd'A council

| August 19, 2019 1:00 AM

The final plan for development of a park along the Spokane River at the former Atlas Mill site will be presented to the Coeur d’Alene City Council on Tuesday.

The council will meet at 6 p.m. in the community room of the Coeur d’Alene Public Library.

After more than a year of gathering input during public forums, the city’s consultant will unveil the plan for the park, which sits within the former mill site along 3,600 feet of shoreline west of the Riverstone development.

As proposed, the park project includes public open space, a swimming area, recreation storage building and picnic shelter.

The project is expected to go to bid later this month. Construction is expected to be complete by July 2020, according to Phil Boyd of Welch Comer Engineers.

The former mill site, which the city bought earlier this year for $7.85 million, comprises 47 acres between the river and Seltice Way.

The council also will receive an update on the health corridor master plan in the vicinity of Kootenai Health.

City officials are working on a plan for a health-based community development. An economic feasibility study is underway — and necessary for the project to be eligible for urban renewal financing from ignite cda.
