Edith Ann (Nelson) McCombs, 77

Edith Ann (Nelson) McCombs passed away in her sleep, peacefully at her home in the early hours of Aug. 4, 2019. Her daughter, Barb, was by her bedside. Edith was born on May 19, 1942, in Coeur d’Alene, Idaho, to Victor and Vinettie Nelson.

She spent her growing up years in North Idaho and graduated from high school as valedictorian of her class in Coeur d’Alene. She got her master’s degree in 1972 from Washington State University, in the teaching of mathematics, which made it possible for her to teach several years at the community college in Winnemucca. She loved teaching.

Edith married Norman McCombs, of Pasco, Wash., on Dec. 31, 1973. Norman’s first wife passed away from a tragic accident, leaving him with three children, who Edith became a mother to. In 1977, Norman and Edith moved to a farm in Antelope Valley, Battle Mountain, Nev., where they spent many years farming. In 1984, they moved to Winnemucca, where they continued to farm.

Edith was preceded in death by her husband and a sister, Itha Hughes of Post Falls. She leaves behind her three children: Ron McCombs of Fort Lupton, Colo., Barbara (Gary) Lewis of Alberta, Canada, Rob McCombs of Battle Mountain; her brother, Ernie (Rita) Nelson of Olympia, Wash.; Ruth (Dennis) Spencer of Coeur d’Alene; along with 10 grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

Edith had a beautiful faith in God and spent her life serving him faithfully. She loved her little fellowship meetings that were, for many years, held in her and Norman’s home.

Edith battled cancer the past few years, and she eventually lost the fight. But she went home and reached her final goal in peace — to be with the One she loved, throughout all eternity.

She will be missed by her family and those of her faith, along with many in the community.

A memorial service was held for Edith at Sonoma Funeral Home in Winnemucca, Nev., on Tuesday, Aug. 13, 2019.

In lieu of flowers, it would be preferred that a donation is made to the charity of your choice in Edith’s name.
