Bomar competes in

PGA Tour Champions

pre-qualifier

ORTING, Wash. ­— Billy Bomar, co-owner of Prairie Falls Golf Club in Post Falls, came within one shot of advancing at a PGA Tour Champions pre-qualifier Thursday at High Cedars Golf Club.

Bomar shot an even-par 71 in the pre-qualifier, finishing in a five-way tie for sixth.

The top five players — Bob Rannow (68), Robert Niger (69), Anthony Smith (69), Mike Grob (70) and Jerome Moore (70) — advanced to a qualifier Tuesday at High Cedars for the PGA Tour Champions Boeing Classic, scheduled for Aug. 23-25 at The Club at Snoqualmie Ridge in Snoqualmie, Wash.

EWU football scrimmage

slated for Saturday

CHENEY — The Eastern Washington University football team will conclude its first two weeks of preseason practices with a scrimmage Saturday afternoon at Roos Field in Cheney. The team hits the field at 1 p.m., with the scrimmage lasting from about 1:20 to 2:30 p.m.

Eagle head coach Aaron Best said the team will use this week’s scrimmage for situations, then will have a more game-like atmosphere the following Saturday. The Eagles open their season at Washington on Aug. 31 and then will have its home opener versus Lindenwood on Sept. 7.

Row-a-thon to be held

to replace Fernan dock

The Coeur d’Alene Rowing Association will hold a row-a-thon Thursday, Aug. 22 from 7 to 10 a.m. to help offset costs for a brand new dock on Fernan Lake.

The current dock is unsafe from years of use, said the group, which is fundraising to pay the remaining $15,000 it will take to get the dock built.

Rowers are being sponsored for meters rowed during the event.
