Casey, Manzardo, Headley

honored by IHSAA

BOISE — Former administrator Steve Casey, official Paul Manzardo and student-athlete Jackson Headley were honored by the Idaho High School Activities Association at its recent Hall of Fame induction ceremony.

Casey served in education for 33 years as a teacher, coach and administrator, starting in 1973 at Lowell Scott Middle School in Meridian, where he taught math and coached baseball and wrestling. He spent three years as Lakes Middle School in Coeur d’Alene before moving into administration at Lakeland Junior High.

In 1989, Casey was named assistant principal at Coeur d’Alene High, and eventually served as principal at CHS for 13 years, retiring in 2006.

Manzardo, a football and basketball official for 25 years, was named Official of the Year by the IHSAA.

Manzardo has been selected to officiate at state boys and girls basketball tournaments a total of 14 times, and has also worked seven state championship football games. He has served on the Idaho High School Officials Association evaluation committees for both basketball and football for more than a decade.

“If there is a big game scheduled in District I, there is a very good chance that Paul Manzardo will be assigned to it,” one of this year’s Official of the Year nominators wrote.

Headley, a rising senior at Post Falls High School, received the 2018-19 Interscholastic Star Student Award, and with it a $1,000 college scholarship.

He has competed in cross country, basketball, golf, track and field and tennis, and also competed at state in speech.

Ranked third in his class of 339, Headley has been awarded the prestigious Athlete Scholar Award at Post Falls High. He has also received the Idaho Top Scholar Award as well as the National Academy of Future Scientists and Technologists Award of Excellence.
