Four survive U.S. 95 crash

UPDATE: Four people survived a crash on U.S. 95 this morning, two without injuries.

A tractor and trailer driven by Wilbert K. Kahoonei, 56, of Puyallup, Wash. was reportedly traveling southbound on U.S. 95, negotiating a right-hand curve, when the trailer disconnected.

Nicholas S. Spooner, 25, of St. Maries, was traveling northbound in a gray Nissan Altima and reportedly collided head-on with the disconnected trailer in the northbound lane.

Spooner and his passenger, Timothy P. Spooner, 59, were transported to Kootenai Health.

Kahoonei and his passenger, Darnelle I. Kahoonei, 51, were not injured.

All occupants in both vehicles were wearing seatbelts. The highway was blocked for approximately four hours.

Idaho State Police shared this photo of a serious accident that has blocked traffic on U.S. 95 about three miles south of Coeur d’Alene since about 8:30 this morning. No other information has been released.
