Blown line causes power outage

| August 13, 2019 9:43 AM

A blown surge protector at a Coeur d’Alene substation Monday evening left 12,000 people in Coeur d’Alene without service before power was restored after midnight.

The outage to the 115k transmission line at the substation near Cherry Hill required crews to reroute power sources in an effort to provide electricity for customers east of Government Way from Walnut to French Gulch, Dalton Gardens and additional neighborhoods east of I-90.

Power was slowly restored across the city between approximately 6:30 p.m. when the outage was reported and around 11 p.m. when 4,000 people were still without power, according to Avista.

The outage didn’t affect 9-1-1 communications, which were operating at the height of the outage, according to the Coeur d’Alene Police Department. City crews restored traffic lights as power became available.
