Indians' offense pounds Boise

BOISE — In a city named for its wood, the Spokane Indians broke out their bats and pounded the host Boise Hawks 17-3 on Sunday evening before 3,091 at Memorial Stadium.

The Indians had 21 hits, with every starter recording at least one of them, including a 4-for-6 night from leadoff man Derwin Barreto and three hits each by Keven Irizaary, Blaine Crim and David Garcia.

Garcia had two doubles and drove in three runs for Spokane, which led by double-digits in the fifth inning before a seven-run sixth inning turned the game into a rout. Obie Ricumstrict had a two-run homer for the Indians.

On the mound, Luis Rosario improved to 3-1 on the season with six scoreless innings of relief. He allowed only five hits and no walks while striking out four Hawks.

Boise (23-32 overall, 8-9 second half) committed three errors in the game and fell three games behind Hillsboro in the South Division standings.

Spokane (31-24, 9-8 second half) remained tied for first with Tri-City in the North Division.

The two teams continue their series with a 6:15 p.m. PDT game tonight in Boise.
