Randall Scott Ulrich, 53

May 5, 1966 — July 6, 2019

Randall Scott Ulrich was a blessing to all who knew him. Randy struggled his whole life with the disabilities that come with the most profound form of Down syndrome. However, he never let these mountains get in his way. He embraced life with joy and rose above his limitations in so many ways. He was a magnet for love and impacted countless lives with his beautiful soul.

Randy was born on May 5, 1966. He passed away on July 6, 2019, at age 53. He was in the arms of his beloved sister and guardian, Tonia, and his passing was very peaceful.

Randy grew up in Coeur d’ Alene in a family of seven. Randy was the middle child of five children. He was just one of the family. During those years, he went on a vacation, enjoyed the beach, fished, went to the drive-in, played with his siblings in the backyard and enjoyed other family outings. After Randy began to go to school, he learned to communicate by sign language, learned to walk well, learned to feed himself, learned personal care, learned to make coffee for his staff and himself, participated in the Special Olympics and attended movies, dances parties and family gatherings.

Randy loved television, music, coffee, eating good food, outings, floor time, being pushed in his wheelchair fast, visitations with family, laughing and getting into mischief.

During his last years, he enjoyed going to the park with his sisters to feed the ducks. He enjoyed watching the TV show, “Friends” while having the top of his head rubbed. Last year, he enjoyed the biggest family reunion in years and was reunited with all his loved ones.

Randy loved his family, his caregivers and his friends. Even though his eyesight was very poor, he would always perk up at the sound of the voices of his family; especially hearing the voice of his guardian, his advocate, his protector, his best friend and his sister — Tonia.

Our family will cherish our memories of his smile forever. The radiant light he has brought to so many people can not be underestimated. He was a beautiful soul.

Randall Scott Ulrich was preceded in death by his father, Norman Ulrich; his grandmother, Margaret Ulrich; his uncles, Jerry and Joe Ulrich; his grandfather, Fred Ulrich; and step-grandmother, Marge Ulrich. He is survived by his mother, Frances Ulrich; his brother, David Ulrich; and his sisters, Robin LaFountain, Tonia Ulrich and Christina Ulrich. He is also, survived by numerous aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins.
