Sunny Lee Fagan, 85

Sunny Lee Fagan, 85, passed away at home on Aug. 3, 2019, after a battle with breast cancer. She was born in Hebron, N.D., to Lena and Gus Schmidt. She moved to Denver, where she met the love of her life, Walter Fagan, in 1950. Walter and Sunny loved to travel; they traveled all over the United States, sharing the experiences with their children, grandchildren and even great-grandchildren. Hawaii was one of Sunny’s favorite places.

Walter and Sunny operated a square dance hall in Southern California for a number of years. Sunny had made a wealth of wonderful friends throughout the years. She later worked in the local schools as a lunch aide.

Sunny was an avid volunteer throughout the years. She volunteered at the Coeur d’Alene Food Bank, Post Falls Senior Center and various churches in our community. Sunny was known around the Coeur d’Alene area as the “Tab Lady,” going all over to collect tabs to give the proceeds to the cancer centers. She worked very hard for donations to help people with cancer. She was a very proud cancer survivor for well over 20 years and attended Relay for Life.

Being a charter member of the Red Hat Flappers of Post Falls, Sunny had put together a number of activities to raise money for various programs in Kootenai County. At one of the very first fashion shows, she raised money for mammograms. Sunny was known as the “Queen of Fun” for the activities she put together for her Red Hatters.

Sunny is preceded in death by her loving husband. She is survived by her children, Michael and Lulu Fagan, Charlie and Debbie Fagan, Sandra Miller and Sunny and Randy Chaney, as well as her grandchildren, Greg and Rosie Fagan, Cheryl Fagan, April and Kevin Chaney, Mike and Mina Fagan, Julie Fagan, Brandon and Danielle Chaney, Timothy and Gina Mezin and Lacy and Matthew Hart. Sunny was great-grandmother to 16 and great-great-grandmother to three, and her brothers are Gary (Mary) Schmidt and Jay (Pam) Schmidt.

A memorial for Sunny Lee Fagan will be held at 1 p.m. on Sunday, Aug., 11, 2019, at the Hospice of North Idaho Community Services Building, 2290 W. Prairie Ave., Coeur d’Alene, Idaho.
