Delores Elaine (Johnson) Griffin, 87

Delores Elaine (Johnson) Griffin was called home to be with our Lord in Heaven, on July 7, 2019, at the age of 87. Delores resided at Garden Plaza, in Post Falls. She passed away while in Respite Care at The Schneidmiller Hummingbird Field House in Coeur d’Alene, Idaho.

Delores was born on Dec. 6, 1931, in Fosston, Minn., to parents, Palmer A. Johnson and Viola Susan (Patzer) Johnson. In January of 1932, when Delores was only 6 weeks old, her parents packed up their 1927 Chevy-5 Window Coupe and drove from Minnesota on snowy roads to move to Idaho.

Delores attended schools in Coeur d’Alene. In early 1948, Delores’ best friend’s boyfriend introduced her to Robert “Bob” Michael Griffin. At that time, Bob Griffin was on leave from the U.S. Navy. It was love at first sight and six months later, the two were married on July 10, 1948, in Coeur d’Alene. On April 14, 1950, they had their first child, a daughter, Karleen Elaine. Three years later, on July 6, 1953, their son, Timothy Michael, was born. Both children were born in Coeur d’Alene.

Delores worked at the Boots and Saddles Restaurant, as well as Modern Drug in Coeur d’Alene. She also worked at the Econo-Mart Drug in Post Falls and the Big K in the Spokane Valley. Over several years, she was a representative sales associate for Fashion Two-Twenty Cosmetics, Sarah Coventry Jewelry, and Shaklee. Delores’ family is also very proud to mention that she volunteered for Hospice of North Idaho for more than 17 years as a cashier.

Delores enjoyed spending time with her family and friends. She loved to bake and cook for them. Some of her specialties were huckleberry delight, hip padder bars, applesauce and hamburgers. She also loved to make many different and yummy fudges, candies and cookies. Delores loved her Dachshunds and she had many of them over her lifetime. They were her babies! She enjoyed tending to her flowers in her yard, dancing, listening to music and playing cards.

She was an avid churchgoer and believed in worshiping her Lord. Delores was a member and the treasurer of the Post Falls Nazarene Church for many years. Later, she attended Candlelight Christian Fellowship in Coeur d’Alene, as well as church services at Garden Plaza with Pastor Bob.

Delores was preceded in death by her husband; her parents; a baby brother; a baby grandson and Bill Stollifuss, her special companion. Delores is survived by her daughter, Karleen (Rick) Dammarell of Cascade; her son, Timothy Griffin of Spirit Lake; her brother, Ken (Linda) Johnson of Post Falls; her step-brother, Bob (Paulette) Heringer of Bismarck N.D.; her grandsons, Shawn Dammarell of Coeur d’Alene, Matthew (Christina) Griffin of Hayden and Brent Griffin of Post Falls; her granddaughters, Kacie (Ryan) Rowbury of Meridian and Alysha (Dylan) Marquez of Boise; great-grandchildren, Brody and Josie Rowbury, Luke Marquez and Hadley and Wade Griffin; a sister-in-law, Loretta Bailey of Iowa; a brother-in-law, Paul Griffin of Arizona; and several nieces and nephews.

A memorial service celebrating Delores’ life will be held at 2 p.m. on Saturday, Aug. 31, 2019, in the Clay Larkin Room at Garden Plaza, in Post Falls.
