Revvin' up for the Rod Run

POST FALLS — A lot of heat and even a little bit of cold will be felt at the second annual Rod Run show and cruise tonight and Saturday at Tedder Industries.

Free activities from 6 to 9 tonight at the former factory outlets along Interstate 90 include a cruise along Riverbend Avenue and music by the oldies rock Paul Layton Band.

"It will be an old-school, Main Street-style cruise," said Brent Lundquist, president of the North Idaho Classics Car Club, which is organizing the event. "It should be a fun time for the community."

Eighty-nine vehicles cruised last year.

There is no cost to be in the cruise, nor are there any restrictions on the year and type of vehicles. The club requests that entries be show quality.

"It's a public street, and we didn't ask to close it down, so we can't restrict on what you cruise in," Lundquist said.

Attendees might need sunglasses and ear plugs from 7 to 8 p.m.: That’s when the flame-throwing and loud-pipe contests take place.

The free vehicle show will be from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Saturday in the north parking lot of Tedder Industries.

"We had 160 entered in last year's show, and we're hoping to grow every year," Lundquist said. "Last year we competed with other shows, but this year there's no other local car shows."

The cost to enter a vehicle in the show is $15.

Miller’s Sun will perform from 11 a.m. to noon and from 1:30 to 2:30 p.m. From noon to 1:30 p.m. there will games for adults and kids.

A twist — literally — will be a frozen T-shirt contest at 2:30 p.m.

"T-shirts are twisted into a paper cup full of water and frozen," Lundquist said. "The first one to unwrap the T-shirt and put it on wins. In 90-degree weather everybody likes that idea. People have different techniques to bust the ice open."

Car show awards will be presented at 3 p.m.

Vendors will be on hand both days.

The car club parted ways with Car d'Lane in Coeur d'Alene last year when the nonprofit couldn't reach an agreement with the Coeur d'Alene Downtown Association. The event in Post Falls is also different than the former River City Rod Run at the former Hot Rod Café.
