LAKELAND: Growth should pay for bond
Lakeland School District has the audacity to ask homeowners to consider yet another levy. This greed will not stop until we say NO, enough is enough.
Where is the revenue from all the new residents? Isn’t Lakeland getting enough funds from each homeowner already?
We are seniors on a limited income and pay well over $1,500 a year just for Lakeland schools. Our social security doesn’t increase yearly like our taxes do.
Over the last 10 years the population has almost if not already doubled; so have our property taxes. Our community once was open prairies with alfalfa and hay fields, now it’s wall to wall houses.
More revenue folks, but Lakeland claims they need more money, more schools, move this school here, move that school there, there is too much traffic, pedestrians are unsafe. It will be interesting to see how many Lakeland schools will be holding “Back to School Night” Aug. 27, the same night we vote at the polling place, the school. How many times will fliers be sent home with students stressing get out and vote — your children need your support.
Please take a drive around our community. There sure are a lot of new homes bringing in revenue from taxes. What justifies this levy? Doesn’t it make you wonder? I will vote NO, then wait for them to request again in March and vote NO again. It’s got to stop somewhere.
