AMERICA: Key to restoring exceptionalism

| August 2, 2019 1:00 AM

America was exceptional for the first 150-175 years because of five governmental acknowledgments given at the beginning of the Declaration of Independence:

1. There are eternal laws higher than man’s (“the laws of nature and nature’s God.”)

2. There is a Creator.

3. He created us with unalienable rights.

4. Government is to protect those rights.

5. Government’s powers come from the consent of the governed (majority rule).

John Adams said, “Our constitution was made only for a moral and religious people” because morality comes from religion (here, Christianity), and without people with moral self-control our Constitution is worthless.

The Bible and prayer were foundational for all American society. Benjamin Rush spoke for many when he said, “The only foundation for…a republic is…Religion. Without this there can be no virtue (morality), and without virtue there can be no liberty.”

Our Founders said in the Northwest Ordinance, “Religion, morality, and knowledge being necessary to good government and the happiness of mankind, schools … shall be forever encouraged.” This led to the greatest nation in world history.

Anti-Christians succeeded in stopping our schools from teaching Christianity and morality by Court opinion, not legislated law. (Bible was taught until 1947 and read until 1963.) The result includes violence, lack of respect for people and property, a dumbing down of education, loss of integrity, and more.

How can we make America great again? We must restore God/Christianity and righteousness to our public life. We must return to the principles that made America great originally.
