Falling tree strikes vehicle near Rose Lake

ROSE LAKE — Two people were injured after a tree fell onto a pickup truck Saturday afternoon on State Highway 3, just south of Rose Lake.
Idaho State Police report that a 2007 GMC Sierra driven by Leon Heinrich, 41, of Kingston, was traveling north on Highway 3 near milepost 106.5 around 3 p.m. when a tree from the west shoulder of the roadway fell and struck the vehicle.
Heinrich and his passenger, 49-year-old Tawnya Heinrich, also of Kingston, were transported by ground EMS to Kootenai Health with non-life threatening injuries, police reported. Seatbelts were worn by both occupants, and airbags did not deploy.
The roadway was closed for about 1½ hours due to the crash, police reported.
