James Henry Wenstrom, 51

“Jim,” born in Denver, Colo., on Aug. 1, 1967, suddenly passed on April 24, 2019, in Commerce City, Colo., near his birthplace of Denver.

Jim was adopted as an infant to Donald Sr. and Jessica Wenstrom of Gardiner, Mont., where he would join his new older brother, Donny Jr. Jim grew up in Montana, graduating from Gardiner High School near Yellowstone National Park in 1987. He played for the basketball, track and field, and football teams.

Jim and Kimberly Harlow of Athol, Idaho, met and married shortly after high school. The young couple moved to the Spirit Lake area, where they raised their three beautiful children, Kacie ReAnne, born Sept. 19, 1990; Colton James, born Nov. 22, 1992; and Kara LeeAnne, born May 6, 1994. Jim worked at the local building centers, Ziggy’s and Atlas Building Center and eventually found a career driving dump trucks and asphalt trucks for Conmat, Coeur d’Alene Paving and POE Asphalt.

The family was very involved in the budding basketball careers of both daughters and started the first AAU team for Spirit Lake. Jim was inherently committed to the development of the Timberlake girls basketball program and not only helped coach his daughters AAU teams, but coached several seasons of the girls JV teams.

His children were his life and Jim was a committed and devoted father. After the divorce from his wife in 2010, Jim and Colton moved to Commerce City, Colo., to reestablish his relationship with his birth mother, Dinah Gonzales, and two half sisters, Carol and Laura Gonzales. Jim and son Colton enjoyed their four-wheelers and motorcycles.

Jim continued his career in asphalt paving and concrete working for Mtn. States Asphalt before becoming ill. Jim is preceded in death by his daughter, Kacie in 2015; his father, Donald Sr. and mother Jessica. Jim is survived by his two children, Colton of Denver, and Kara and fiancé David Delity of San Diego; his brother, Don Jr. of Deaver, Wyo.; birth mom Dinah Gonzales; and sisters Laura and Carol Gonzales of Denver, Colo.
