Samuel Ray Weimorts, 77

Samuel Ray Weimorts, 77, of Coeur d’Alene, Idaho, passed away on April 23, 2019, surrounded by his family.

Sam was born in Mobile, Ala., on Jan. 18, 1942. He grew up in California, moved to Florence, Ore., as a young adult and has resided in Coeur d’Alene since 1985. He loved youth sports and coached both baseball and junior tackle football for many years in the Coeur d’Alene area. He loved helping kids to find a love for sports like his.

After an early career in the lumber industry in Oregon, he retired after 20-plus years as a long-haul driver traveling the U.S., where he enjoyed seeing this great country and all its beauty.

Sam was a veteran of the U.S. Army, where he served during Vietnam. His love for his country never wavered and was followed in military service by his son, son-in-law and granddaughter.

Like all men, Sam’s hobbies changed as life and location changed. While in Oregon he lived on the water and loved fishing and skiing and spending time on the boat with friends. In Idaho, he played softball with friends at CdA Assembly until old age took him out of the game. The love for fishing never left and in his later years, it was a love of watching NASCAR on television along with waiting for that elusive Mariners World Series.

Sam is survived by his wife, June Weimorts; children, Sandra Robertson of Oregon, Aaron Weimorts of Kansas, Adam Weimorts of Idaho, Anthony Allen of Oregon, Michael Allen of Washington and Pat Allen of Nevada; 15 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. Sam loved his family, which always brought a smile to his face.

Arrangements are entrusted to Bell Tower Funeral Home.
