Today's ghastly groaner

| April 20, 2019 1:00 AM

John, a young, Irish unversity student, was hitchhking near Belfast on a dark, stormy night. The storm was so strong, he could hardly see a few feet in front of him.

He saw a car slowly approaching. It stopped near him and without thinking, John jumped in and closed the door. He suddenly realized there was no one behind the wheel and the engine wasn’t on.

The car began moving slowly, and terrified, John saw a curve ahead. He started to pray and beg for his life. Just before the curve, he jumped from the car and ran into a pub.

Wet and out of breath, he told everyone about the experience he’d just had. A silence enveloped the pub when everyone realized he was crying — and he wasn’t drunk.

Suddenly the door opened and two other people walked in from the stormy night. Like John, they were also soaked and out of breath.

Looking around and seeing John sobbing at the bar, one said to the other, “Look, Paddy, there’s that idiot that got in the car while we were pushing it!”
