Fast Five: Emily Boyd
Meet Emily Boyd, the events coordinator for the Coeur d’Alene Downtown Association. She was raised in Coeur d’Alene, spent two years at University of Idaho and ultimately graduated from Boise State University, although she says her loyalty lies with the Vandals. Emily found herself lucky to find a rewarding career here in Coeur d’Alene, where her family lives. She enjoys spending time outdoors, watching Zags basketball and trying different coffee.
Generation:
I fall into the millennial generation. I don’t feel as if I fall into the constraints of one generation classification (I don’t think anyone truly does). But I would describe myself as a self-starting, multi-tasking, outgoing individual.
Career and community involvement:
As the events coordinator, I put on a community event every month such as Car d’Lane, Street Fair and Oktoberfest, to name a few. Through the Downtown Association I also support small businesses and revitalization/maintenance throughout the downtown corridor.
1. What joy do you get from coordinating some of Coeur d'Alene's biggest events?
I could go on and on about this. However, if I had to choose, bringing the community together and exposing people to small businesses downtown through events are two of my biggest joys. When someone says, "I never knew about this business downtown and I can’t wait to go back,” I feel as if my mission has been accomplished.
2. What is the best part of bringing the community together?
Well, quite simply, just watching people enjoy themselves in their own community. My favorite thing to do — which has been a learned “task” — is, in the middle of the event take time to stop and really look at what came together, not in the coordination aspect — but really look and see friends and families enjoying themselves together.
3. What is your favorite book and/or movie and why?
"Elf" is my all-time favorite movie and I can pretty much quote the entire thing. I enjoy the light-heartedness of the movie. My favorite book is "Tuesdays with Morrie" by Mitch Albom. Although the book is incredibly sad, I also find it to be profoundly honest about life and a great reminder on how to live your life day to day in a positive light.
4. What is something people would be surprised to learn about you?
I have a huge fascination with marching bands. I haven’t ever been a part of one but when a marching band performs at a sporting event at halftime I am totally enthralled. I’m personally offended when everyone gets up as soon as the band comes on — it’s great entertainment!
5. If you could be any animal for a day, what would it be and why?
If I could be any animal for a day, I would be my spoiled and over-loved Yorkie, Finley. One day as him would have me completely rejuvenated!
