COLD: Some heartwarming facts
The weatherman says we set records this winter for the longest cold spell in history and for the most snow in February. We also set records at St. Vincent de Paul North Idaho for having our winter warming center open the most nights ever, 87.
When the temperature is below 28 degrees, we offer shelter and a hot meal to protect those who have no place to go. Most nights we had between 25 and 35 people. Typically, we offer this service from November to February. Due to the cold temperatures in March, we did not close the facility until March 17.
We receive no government funding for the warming center and many of the services we offer to our citizens in need. The facility is possible due to support from our community.
Bags of groceries were donated, hundreds of blankets, many meals and cash donations gave our friends and neighbors a warm place to go. A special thank you to Heritage Health for their partnership, the Post Falls Police Department for always being willing to assist, Eagle Scout Sam Garn with Troop No. 229 for freezers full of prepared meals, and everyone who helped make this possible.
We could not do what we do without you!
