PROJECT: Wrong for Cd'A

| April 7, 2019 1:00 AM

Here we go again. Another developer wants to double his property’s zoning to C-34 to double profits, which doubles traffic, doubles congestion, doubles driver aggravation, doubles waiting at lights … UGH!

Last summer the city funded the Atlas Waterfront/Riverstone study to identify means to reduce traffic gridlock. Glacier 1940 Riverstone LLC, wants to build a 65-unit, five-story apartment on Riverstone Drive. By squeezing in about 130 people, driving at least twice a day, in this already overcrowded community is crazy!

I applaud the City Planners when they recently denied a R-34 request for an 870-apartment behemoth in the Atlas Mill area. At the meeting, the planners observed the overwhelming number of residents saying, NO. This is too much!

When a builder buys a C-17 lot, there should be no assumption to double it later. The city, if they approve this proposal, is sending a terrible message: That the desire of a developer to double profit outweighs that of its residents to enjoy their town!

Our roadway infrastructure is already overburdened and 20 years behind the needs of our population; even our schools are straining to absorb more students. Ask the city to fix the gridlock before approving large developments.

VOICE YOUR OPINION at the Planning Commission hearing, 5:30 p.m. April 9 at the Coeur d’Alene Public Library Community Room. Can’t attend? Email your comments BEFORE 5 p.m. April 8 to Shana in the Planning Commission department at shana@cdaid.org.

Let’s save our sanity and preserve what we love about Coeur d’Alene before it vanishes.
