Lucky 7s for Lakeland's Woolley

RATHDRUM — For Lakeland senior Taylor Woolley, the lucky number was seven on Saturday.

Seven runs batted in at the plate. Seven strikeouts in the circle.

Woolley homered twice, including a sixth-inning grand slam to send the Hawks past the Moscow Bears 22-12 in the first game in the 4A Inland Empire League opener for both schools at Lakeland High.

“Taylor hitting two home runs was pretty phenomenal,” Lakeland coach Colleen Bevacqua said. “We played well as a team, and the girls did a great job. We did some good things today, and that was nice to see.”

The second game of the scheduled doubleheader was postponed due to rain.

Erika Gallus had three hits and three RBIs for Lakeland (1-9), which is scheduled to host Sandpoint in a doubleheader on Tuesday starting at 3 p.m.

ST. MARIES — Jenna Holder went 3 for 4 with three doubles and three RBIs as the Lumberjacks beat the Bulldogs in the first game of a Central Idaho League doubleheader.

The second game was called due to rain with St. Maries leading 14-0 in the second inning. As it did not count in the league standings (both games in Grangeville on April 20 count in the CIL standings), Saturday’s rainout will not be made up.

Madison Cordell went 3 for 4 with an RBI and three runs scored in the opener for St. Maries (1-2, 1-0 CIL). Elizabeth Ragan was 2 for 3 and scored four runs, Amber Rose Walrod went 2 for 2 with three RBIs and two runs scored, Alena Davenport was 3 for 4 with two RBIs and two runs scored, and Kirsten Miller was 2 for 4 with two RBIs.

Gracie Barden struck out eight in five innings for St. Maries.

St. Maries plays host to Bonners Ferry on Tuesday in a nonleague doubleheader.

ST. MARIES — Thomas Reynolds struck out 12 and pitched a three-hitter for the Bulldogs in a win over the Lumberjacks in the first game of a scheduled Central Idaho League doubleheader at City Park.

Cade Truscott had two hits for St. Maries (0-2), which committed four errors in the game.

Chase Adkison, who has signed with the revived Boise State baseball program, had four hits and two runs scored for Grangeville.

The second game was postponed due to rain. The teams are scheduled to play a doubleheader on April 20 at Grangeville, and both games will now count in the league standings.

BOISE — Lakeland’s Emily Grove was second in the discus with a throw of 106 feet, 7 inches to pace local entrants at the Boise Relays at Dona Larsen Park.

Ridgevue’s Audreyahnna Savell won the event with a throw of 115-10.

Rain cuts short Post Falls tourney

POST FALLS — The Post Falls “Best of 9” tournament was postponed due to rain.

Players had finished round-robin matches and had just began the bracketed portion of the tournament when rain halted the event.

Efforts to reschedule and conclude the tournament are being made.
