OPT-OUT: A dirty done deal

| April 3, 2019 1:00 AM

Would or could you ask the county commissioners why they held the public hearing last week when the decision had already been made by Commissioners Fillios and Brooks! They had already decided to nix the opt-out program!

Why did they decide to spend the money to have a public hearing when the decision had already been made!

No matter what anyone giving emotional testimony about keeping the opt-out program said it was not going to change their minds! Thank goodness that Commissioner Duncan took the time to listen!

The reason for Commissioners Brooks and Fillios decision was obvious and pointed out that they are part of the industry that opposes the opt-out program!

We took advantage of the opt-out program, paid $800 for our location permits for a greenhouse and house to be built in the future! Have not figured out why one hour of work by the county cost $800. Would like to see the figures from the county!

We went to the public hearing to support our neighbors and friends and ask that the commissioners at least give it a trial for a couple of years, but that idea was not even considered.

No one knows what the opt-out program might have done, but we bought our property because there was no HOA and we thought there were only building code requirements, we did not know that the KC operates as the HOA for rural KC! Had it not been for the opt-out program, we would have sold out and moved to somewhere that doesn’t have the county working as an HOA and controlled by commissioners controlled by the housing industry!
