Nominees sought for House page program
Idaho State Rep. Paul Amador, R-Coeur d’Alene, is seeking high school seniors interested in serving as a page in the Idaho House of Representatives during the 2019 legislative session.
“The Idaho House Page Program is a one-of-a-kind opportunity for high school seniors to be closely involved in the day-to-day operation of the Idaho Legislature and learn how laws are created and state budgets are drafted,” said a news release from Amador’s legislative office.
House pages perform a variety of duties in the Idaho Legislature under the supervision of the Sergeant at Arms, which includes assisting committee secretaries in setting up and taking down meetings, delivering messages, running errands and assisting legislators and staff.
“The House pages are an invaluable resource to us as legislators. They help make the whole operation run smoothly and they also appear to have a lot of fun learning and experiencing the legislative process,” Amador said.
Requirements to serve as an Idaho House page include current enrollment as a high school senior between the ages of 17 and 19, permission from their high school principal and they must be sponsored by a local state representative.
House pages serve a six-week term, choosing either the first or second half of the legislative session. The upcoming legislative session will convene on Monday, Jan. 7, 2019. Pages are paid $8 per hour and work approximately 40 hours per week. Arrangements and expenses for housing and transportation are the responsibility of the student and parents/guardians. Pages from outside the Boise area often stay with family or friends who live near the Capitol.
The application deadline is Nov. 9, however, prospective students are encouraged to submit their applications as soon as possible.
Prospective students interested in the Idaho House of Representatives Page Program can find more information and an application on the Idaho Legislature’s website at www.legislature.idaho.gov/house.
