Masterson's hat trick lifts St. Maries past Orofino

OROFINO — Matt Masterson scored a hat trick and Steven Grant, who gave football a try this season before returning to the soccer team two weeks ago, added a goal and an assist as the visiting Lumberjacks blanked the Maniacs in Intermountain League play Thursday.

Trevor DeVries added a pair of assists for St. Maries (7-4-1, 7-2 IML), which travels to St. Georges in Spokane on Monday.

POST FALLS — Mckie Gregory scored on an assist from Cameron Calabretto in the 38th minute for the Trojans to tie the game, but the visiting Bears scored the go-ahead goal early in the second half to capture the nonleague match at Post Falls High.

“We came out pretty flat in the first 10 minutes, and that’s when they scored their first goal,” Post Falls coach Gabe Lawson said. “We turned it on, got a goal back before half, but kind of got deflated when the second goal went in. It was hard to climb back into the match, but we had some moments where we should have scored.”

Post Falls (4-8) travels to Lake City on Saturday.

Max Mortimer scored both goals for Moscow (6-5), which hosts Lakeland on Tuesday.

RATHDRUM — The Hawks fell to 0-3 in 4A Inland Empire League play with a loss to the Bulldogs under the lights at Corbit Field.

Braeden Dressel scored in the 35th minute for Sandpoint (5-4, 3-0 4A IEL), the lone goal of the first half.

Lakeland (0-11-1) travels to Moscow on Tuesday.

Sandpoint hosts Coeur d’Alene on Tuesday.

SANDPOINT — Alecia Edelblute shined in goal with 23 saves as the Hawks gave the Bulldogs all they wanted before falling in 4A Inland Empire League play at Pine Street Field.

Lakeland lost 8-0 at home to Sandpoint three weeks ago.

“We played our way, played hard, passed, got into it physically on the 50/50s,” Lakeland coach Mario Maddy said. “I’m happy with how they played. They stuck their nose in there. You’ve got to play (Sandpoint) for 80 minutes.

Riley Walkington scored her 17th goal of the season in the 45th minute for Sandpoint (7-3-1, 3-0 4A IEL), which plays at Coeur d’Alene on Tuesday.

Lakeland (1-8-1, 0-2-1) hosts Moscow on Tuesday.
