T-Wolves rally past Vikings under the lights

COEUR d’ALENE — Greyden Lee and Keaton Murphree had a goal and assist each as the visiting Lake City Timberwolves rallied to clinch the 5A Inland Empire League title with a 4-2 win over the Coeur d’Alene Vikings on Tuesday night.

“We started strong but were second best for a portion of the first half and allowed Coeur d’Alene too much time on the ball and more possession than I would like,” Lake City coach Alan Rich said. “We made some adjustments at halftime, worked harder in the midfield and applied more pressure to win the ball and came from behind. It was a good team win. We spread the scoring over four different players, our goalkeeper (Chase Norris) made some key saves at the right time and I am very proud of the second half effort, which ultimately won the game.”

Gavin McLuskie scored in the 30th minute and Dakota Fisbeck added a goal in the 60th minute for Coeur d’Alene (7-3, 3-2 5A IEL), which had played three matches in the four days.

“In the first half, we came out with energy and were connecting passes,” Coeur d’Alene coach Braden Ridgewell said. “It was exactly what we wanted it to look like. In the second half, we came out a little slow and were unable to get a groove going.”

Lake City (10-0, 5-0 IEL) hosts St. George’s on Friday.

The game was played under the lights on Coeur d’Alene High’s football field.

“It was a really cool experience,” Ridgewell said. “We try to use the length of the field to our advantage, but playing on the football field played more to Lake City’s strengths. We adjusted where we needed to.”
